Bhimtal is situated at an altitude of 1370 meters above sea level and is about 22 kilometers from Nainital. Bhimtal is a town named after Bhima of Mahabharata. Bhimeshwara Mahadev Temple, an ancient Shiva temple situated in the bank of Bhimtal lake.

It is believed to have been built when Bhima visited the place during the banishment (vanvas) period of Pandavas.

Bhimtal is older than Nainital as the city of Nainital has been a stoppage for the travellers of the region from hills to plains or vice versa for a long time. Visitors come here to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva throughout the year.

Bhimtal Lake:

Bhimtal Lake, one of the most famous lakes in India. Hanuman Garhi:

The temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Situated at the height of 6401 ft, this temple offers an incredible sight of sunset over the Himalayas.

The most fascinating feature of this complex is statue of Lord Hanuman almost 4 m high.

By Flight:

Pantnagar airport is the nearest airport, which is located about 55 kms from Bhimtal. Taxis are easily available from the airport to Bhimtal. Pantnagar is connected to Delhi with daily flights. Pant Nagar Airport is well connected by metalled road with Bhimtal.

By Train:

Kathgodam Railway station is the nearest railhead to Bhimtal situated at a distance of 10kms. Kathgodam is well connected by major cities of India like Lucknow, Kolkata, Delhi, etc. There are two trains that run daily between Delhi to Kathgodam and vice-versa. Trains are frequent to Kathgodam as it is the gateway of Kumaon region. Taxis and buses are easily available from Kathgodam to Bhimtal.

By Road:

Bhimtal is a remote destinations but it is well connected by motorable roads with major destinations of northern India. Buses are easily available from ISBT Anand Vihar, New Delhi to Haldwani, Nainital and Almora. Taxis are also available from major cities of Kumaon region and Garhwal region to Bhimtal. Many private bus service providers operate luxury buses between Delhi to Kathgodam and Nainital from where you can easily get a taxi to Bhimtal.
